Wireless does not offer the bandwidth necessary to support gaming, video transfer, and other data intensive processes that I want to do, so I set about installing Cat6 (1000 Mbps) cable (

Intellinet, 250′ CAT6 Bulk Solid Ethernet Cable, Grey

) in five locations throughout my house. This tool set worked amazingly well for the low cost of the set, competing all the jobs necessary to make the cable ready for use. I used Legrand On-Q RJ-45 modular ports and plates to mount the wall end of the cable at accessible locations, then terminated the other end of the cables in a common closet in my basement.I finished the modular port wiring using the punchdown tool in this set. It is a very simple tool, with no replaceable blade. The tool fits so well in the case for the set that a second tool was necessary to pry it out (or maybe it’s just that I have little to no fingernails). It worked fine, with no issues. The closet end of the cable was terminated with an RJ-45 plug and boot. The crimper tool did a fine job in terminating the cable, with no failures attributable to the tool. Note that the sheath cutter/stripper is adjustable in depth to cut through the outer casing of the CAT6 cable, and the straight blade on the stripper was useful for both snipping the twisted pair spacer (which differentiates CAT5 and CAT6 cable) and evening the length of the exposed untwisted pairs. Finally, I tested each cable using the

Pyle Home PHCT45 Network Cable Tester

. It made the job much easier – rather than hope I have the cable terminated correctly, I can see immediately if it is so.All in all, a good investment for the home user. If I were an installer, putting in more systems, I would buck for a higher quality set with replaceable blades on every cutting point, etc. But for the occasional user (one wiring job, making extra cables, helping out a friend, etc.)it should be more than adequate.

Picked this up in a hurry because I needed one for a job and it had same day delivery. Thought I might end up with something that worked once but was pleasantly surprised with the different functions of the tester and the strength of the wand. Have used it multiple times now and it’s still going strong. Highly recommend.

Excellent kit! I was able to strip off the outer sheathing of my RJ45 cables in seconds. You should watch some of the videos on YouTube to learn how to properly prepare the 8 wires for plugging into the RJ45 plug before crimping. That was the only thing that took a long time for me, meaning preparing the wires for the plastic plug. Once I got the wires lined up, the crimping just took a few seconds to complete the job. It’s best to look at some videos on YouTube to help you with the wiring before crimping. I also like that this came in a case making it easy to store and find when needed, even around the home. Here is one video I found helpful:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE6UKv4bI00&index=2&list=PL29mVvIDNktqVqmgLyXOwOc4I57DXldfpHere is another one that demonstrates a better technique on how to prepare the wires for the plug before crimping.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFVSbcBJrxw&list=PL29mVvIDNktqVqmgLyXOwOc4I57DXldfp&index=3While the second video shows you can use scissors and a crimper, I do recommend the cable stripping that comes with this kit. It is already preset and all you do is put the cable into it, turn it a full 360 and the cable sheathing is taken off that quick. I was very impressed by the tool.

This is not for the professional installer, however, it is superb for DIY occasional networking. As a kit it is everything you need to hard wire and maintain a home or small business network. I own a pro photography studio, and we work with big files so wireless is not an option. So, the cheapest installers I could find wanted about $1200.00 to install a Cat5e network. It was a 2 person job, but my studio manager and myself used it for wiring up my photography studio network in about 10 hours for under $200.00 including the tool kit! WI will also continue to use it to make custom length cables for a clean and organized installation and to make location changes in the future if needed. I have limited installation experience, but with this kit and the internet for guidance my set up looks impressive. I would rate this product at the lower end of high quality tool workmanship, but a big bang for the buck and it can keep a lot money in your pocket.

I used it for small jobs and it was perfect.

Best rj45 tool out there for 20$. Don’t sleep

We recently moved into a rental house where the fact that the house was wired with Ethernet in every room was made very prevalent. With my wife and I both being Software Developers this was definitely a good selling point. After moving in we soon realized that while the wall plates were installed in the house the junction box where all this wiring came to a union was all unfinished cat5e. So i purchased the paladin tool kit and loved it. By the end of my 10th crimp I was loving the side tool for stripping the insulation and had the job done in about an hour. The quality of the tool is good and I nailed all the crimps on the first try. If you need to do home networking work then I would recommend this product.

It’s not something you would want to use commercially, but for small home projects it is perfect.

I bought this to repair/replace bad cat5e cables. I have tons of cables that i throw away at home/work due to failure. I realized that it’s mostly the connectors that go bad. I bought this kit to try and salvage/re-use the old cables..I guess I’m going green? So i tried it on a few bad cables. Cut the ends off, stripped, re-capped and voila! Works perfectly. IF you do 5 cables it pretty much recoups the cost.I had no issues at all, except the case contains a molded plastic tray that the tools sit in. This tray is quite thin and flimsy, line the plastic tray some Hostess cupcakes would be in in one of those 2 packs…That thin an flimsy so be careful with it…I am tempted to get some foam and cut my own cutouts…
