GBA Grade-A Office Weak-Current Integration

GBA Grade-A office weak-current integration: data, Wi-Fi AP, access control, CCTV and video-conference points in one point plan.

Project context

  • Setting: Greater Bay Area Grade-A office
  • Scale: Multi-department Grade-A office with meeting, open office, and secured zones

Challenge

A Grade-A office fit-out required coordinated weak-current systems: data outlets, Wi‑Fi APs, facial/door access points, CCTV points, and video-conference points, plus network topology and a weak-current requirements table. Multiple vendors (fit-out, AV, security, IT) needed one integrated point plan so ceilings were not opened repeatedly.

Environment

  • High-spec office floor(s) with raised or finished ceilings
  • Departments with different sensitivity (finance vs open office vs guest)
  • HQ may sit on-site or overseas with VPN backhaul
  • Dual-ISP edge and redundant core often desired (a design pattern, not a measured SLA)

Solution architecture

Illustrative architecture diagram: GBA Grade-A Office Weak-Current Integration
Illustrative architecture diagram (generic component names).

Integrated point layers

  1. Data work-area outlets
  2. AP overlay
  3. Access control readers/locks (facial or card as selected)
  4. CCTV coverage of entries/corridors
  5. Video conference room network & display adjacency
  6. Floor IDF patching to campus/core

Network topology (illustrative)

Text view of the architecture (each line: component → what it connects to):

ISP-A → Firewall primary
ISP-B → Firewall backup
Firewall primary → Core SW primary, Branch via IPSec, Branch via IPSec / private line
Firewall backup → Core SW backup
Core SW primary ↔ Core SW backup
Wireless controller / cloud mgmt → Core SW primary
Core SW primary → Finance access SW, R&D / Design access SW, ACS / attendance endpoints
Core SW backup → Open office access SW, Guest / VC access SW

Technical highlights

Network & redundancy pattern

  • Dual ISP → HA firewall pair → dual core switches (as scoped/purchased).
  • Failover behaviour described qualitatively; no unmeasured failover-time claims.
  • Departmental access switches imply VLAN zoning candidates: finance · R&D · open office · guest · VC · ACS.

Wi‑Fi

  • Central AC or cloud controller; APs on PoE access switches.
  • Guest SSID isolation from corp resources.
  • AP point layouts prepared from the site survey.

Access control

  • Readers at main entries / sensitive rooms; controllers on ACS VLAN.
  • Facial vs card is a product choice in the BOM.
  • Door schedules and anti-passback only if configured.

CCTV

  • Entry/corridor coverage coordinated with access events where platforms allow (integration optional).
  • Recording retention sized with a worksheet method rather than a fixed day count.

Video conference

  • Dedicated drops and sometimes QoS markings recommended; VC VLAN optional.
  • AV codec ownership often separate—document network prerequisites only.

Cabling plant

  • Category and labeling unified across data/AP/ACS/CCTV drops where possible.
  • IDF elevation reserves U for ACS controllers and PoE growth.

Implementation steps

  1. Requirements table workshop (systems in/out).
  2. Combined point plans (AP / ACS / CCTV / VC / data).
  3. Topology approval with HQ IT.
  4. Passive install + labeling.
  5. Switch/WLAN/ACS/CCTV bring-up in waves.
  6. Department cutover.
  7. Integrated acceptance (see below).
  8. As-built + ops handoff.

Acceptance

SystemSample criteria
DataOutlets pass tests; port schedule complete
Wi‑FiAPs online; SSID maps verified in sample areas
AccessDoors unlock/lock per schedule; events logged
CCTVCameras online; sample playback
VCRoom endpoints reach network resources as designed

Deliverables

  • Weak-current requirements table
  • Combined point plans
  • Network topology
  • Port/AP/ACS/CCTV schedules
  • Test records
  • As-built pack
  • Training notes

Outcome

GBA Grade-A office weak-current systems integrated under one point plan and topology package suitable for HQ and local IT.
